Today, Medichem is affiliated with the International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) and continues to influence global occupational health standards and practices.

Who Are They?
The International Commission on Occupational Health (ICOH) is a global organization dedicated to promoting and advancing occupational health and safety. The ICOH holds consultative status with the United Nations and its specialized agencies such as the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the World Health Organization (WHO). This affiliation enhances Medichem’s ability to influence global occupational health standards and practices. ICOH’s role in fostering international collaboration aligns with Medichem’s mission to improve health and safety in the chemical industry through scientific and technological advancements.

Founding of Medichem
Medichem was founded in 1972 by Prof. Dr. med. Dr. h. c. Alfred M. Thiess, who was the Corporate Medical Director at BASF, the world’s largest chemical company based in Ludwigshafen, Germany.
Prof. Dr. med. habil. Dr. med. h. c. Alfred Michael Thiess, Founder & Honorary President of Medichem, passed away on Wednesday, the 3rd of February 2016, exactly four months after his 94th birthday on October 3, 2015.
